Cardiovascular Disease Prevention
Prevention is vital to heart health. Early signs of cardiovascular disease can be identified with regular screenings and prevention strategies provided by two of our programs:
The Rasmussen Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention
This program is for those concerned about heart disease but not known to have it. Most often people with a family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes or high blood pressure attend. Some simply have questions or concerns about cardiovascular fitness and aging.
Hyperlipidemia Clinic
The Cardiovascular Center at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview offers cardiovascular disease patients an advanced program of primary and secondary prevention in lipid management. This program takes a comprehensive approach to arteriosclerosis care and treatment, and offers access to clinical trials in lowering LDL-cholesterol, increasing HDL-cholesterol, and reducing triglycerides.
There is also possibility for lipidapheresis in familial hypercholesterolemia. New techniques are used in clinical trials like PET-scan, MRI to detect unstability of atherosclerotic plaque beyond measurement of arterial stiffness and carotid IMT. Moreover, patients with lipid disorders have often hypertension, therefore a personalized approach is taken in tailoring arterial blood pressure.
