One in four women over the age of 35 in the United States suffer from uterine fibroids, non-cancerous growths that can cause heavy bleeding, frequent urination and pelvic pain. All women are at risk of getting fibroids and they occur in 20 to 25 percent of women of childbearing age. It is estimated that between 50 and 80 percent of African American women in the U.S. will develop uterine fibroids. Many women suffer from symptoms but never undergo treatment.

The Fibroid Clinic within the Women’s Health Center at University of Minnesota Medical Center is an innovative program that allows women to see both a University of Minnesota Physicians obstetrician/gynecologist and interventional radiologist during one appointment. Together they help fibroid patients understand both surgical and non-surgical treatment options.

To register for this free seminar, please call 612-672-7272. For additional information on fibroids, please visit uofmfibroid.org. Friends and spouses are also welcome to attend but should register to ensure adequate seating.
